Mitchell Robinson back in training

Injured in the left ankle and operated on in December 2023, Mitchell Robinson participated in his first practice on Wednesday. Before that, he was already back on the court, but was not allowed to play with contact. Now he can and it is an important first step towards a return to competition.

“It wasn’t a long training obviously, but he shot, did things on offense and defense”, book Tom Thibodeau before specifying the conditions of his return. “He will have to make contact for a while, then he will have the green light from the doctors. »

Mitchell Robinson will also have to step up as he has not played since December 8th. He therefore missed more than three months of competition. However, during his absence, his weight did not change.

“We are always worried about weight gain when a player cannot do cardio. He did what he could, being in the pool all the time. He paid attention to his weight and that’s a big plus”, says his coach. An impression confirmed by Jalen Brunson. “He was good old Mitch, not an impostor. »

The Knicks still have 14 games left before the end of the regular season. Consequently, this is the time the player has left to play a little again, in order to be (a little more) in rhythm for the playoffs, and thus not be thrown into the deep end so suddenly.

“We'll add work every day and see how he smells the next day. You never know until the next day. This is an important aspect of the situation”concludes Tom Thibodeau.
