Jerry Stackhouse walks out the door

After five years at the helm of Vanderbilt, Jerry Stackhouse learned he was no longer Vanderbilt's coach. Extended at a high price in 2022, the former NBA leading scorer did not survive the defeat against Arkansas in the SEC tournament. A setback symbolizing a failed season with 9 victories for 23 defeats, and started with seven defeats in a row.

“I appreciate the opportunity Vanderbilt has given me to expand my experience in the sport that I love and that has given me so much,” said the former Sixers guard. “I have had the privilege of coaching this team for the past five years, and my staff and I are extremely grateful for all the opportunities we have had to help our players grow and develop. develop on and off the field. »

Under his command, four players reached the NBA: Saben Lee, Aaron Nesmith, Scotty Pippen Jr and Matt Ryan.

After experience as an assistant with the Grizzlies and the Raptors, and as a coach in the G-League, Jerry Stackhouse took the reins of the team in 2019, replacing Bryce Drew. After two disappointing first seasons, he managed to turn positive in 2022, and Vanderbilt reached the quarterfinals of the NIT tournament, the precursor to the NCAA tournament.

Last season, Vanderbilt reached the semifinals of the SEC tournament. Insufficient to be selected for “March Madness”, and once again, the Commodores' season ended in the quarterfinals of the NIT tournament.
