Russell Wilson to sign with Steelers

Direction Pittsburgh for Russell Wilson. ESPN announces that the veteran quarterback will sign with the Steelers.

It would be a one-year deal for $1.2 million.

A small amount which is not a surprise, since the Broncos must cover $ 38 million of Russell Wilson's salary in 2024. The amount of his remuneration with the Steelers will be deducted from Denver's bill. But no reason for the player to make his new team spend a lot of money.

Russell Wilson reportedly met with the Steelers for more than six hours on Friday. He would have discussed in particular with Mike Tomlin and offensive coordinator Arthur Smith.

Russell Wilson, a disavowal for Kenny Pickett?

In 2022, the Steelers selected Kenny Pickett in the first round of the Draft. The results since then have been very mixed. Last season, Pickett only threw 6 touchdowns to 4 interceptions in 12 games.

Wilson arrives from Denver with 26 touchdowns for 8 interceptions in 2023. If he seems to be on the decline compared to his good years in Seattle, he still seems to represent an improvement compared to Pickett. His short-term contract is also an opportunity for Pickett to learn on the bench, before perhaps returning better.

With George Pickens, Diontae Johnson and Najee Harris, there are some high potential players in the Steelers offense. It remains to be seen how new offensive coordinator Arthur Smith will articulate all of this. So it should be around Wilson.
