Hornets poach Hawks executive

Presented at the Spectrum Center Wednesday evening, the new vice-president of the Hornets Jeff Peterson was quick to formalize a new recruit for his “front office” with the arrival as assistant GM to Dotun Akinwale.

Like Jeff Peterson, Dotun Akinwale studied in Atlanta, and it was therefore at the Hawks that the two had the opportunity to collaborate, from 2015 to 2019. Jeff Peterson was then director of scouting and it was Dotun Akinwale who replaced him in 2019 when he left for the Nets.

Since then, Dotun Akinwale had gained ground since he had been vice-president, in charge of personnel, for three years. The two find themselves today in Charlotte with more responsibilities and a great project to lead, in a franchise now co-owned by Rick Schnall, a former minority owner… of the Hawks.

As in other franchises, the Hornets have therefore chosen to have a vice-president of basketball operations who occupies the GM functions, and to associate him with an assistant GM.
