Pillar of the Dolphins defense for 8 years, Xavien Howard will have to find a new franchise. According to Mike Garafolo (NFL Network), the 31-year-old cornerback will indeed be cut soon by Miami.
Twice All-Pro, four times Pro-Bowler, the peak of Xavien Howard's career is certainly 2020 where he finished 3rd in the Defender of the Year votes (won by Aaron Donald) thanks to an XXL season to 10 interceptions.
Financially, the Dolphins don't gain much, even if the player accounted for 10% of the Dolphins' total payroll. In fact, 23 of the 26 million from Howard's contract will be lost (the dead money) and cannot be reused for another player.
The Dolphins can still count on Jalen Ramsey, the other defensive backfield superstar of the Florida franchise.
