Eight players suspended in NCAA after general brawl

Monday evening, the meeting between Texas A&M-Commerce and Incarnate Word ended in complete confusion. After Texas A&M-Commerce's overtime victory, the traditional handshake turned into a general brawl. Nearly 90 seconds of complete chaos with some players wanting to fight and others trying to hold them back.

Members of both staffs found themselves on the ground. There's even blood. And unsurprisingly, the NCAA cracked down since the Southland Conference authorities decided to suspend eight players, four from each team. After viewing the images, the disciplinary committee handed out suspensions of 1 to 3 matches depending on the players.

“The Southland Conference Board of Directors has set clear expectations for the sportsmanship and behavior of our student-athletes, coaches and spectators during and after competition,” recalls the conference commissionerChris Grant, in a press release. “Unfortunately, these expectations were not met Monday evening and the conference will not tolerate any unsportsmanlike behavior. I would like to express our gratitude to A&M-Commerce Athletic Director Jim Curry and [Incarnate Word], Richard Duran, for their unwavering support, collaboration and resolution of this matter. »

If the management of Incarnate Word reacted by talking about sanctions “ fair and effective“Texas A&M-Commerce did not wish to comment on the decisions.
