Liam Hendriks agrees with the Red Sox

Former Chicago White Sox number one reliever Liam Hendriks is currently recovering from Tommy John surgery, which led the Windy City team to decline his club option, pushing the pitcher to the free agent market last November.

This therefore means that the team that signs him to a contract will not be able to count on his services for the majority of the next campaign and perhaps not before the 2025 season.

And that organization could very well be the Boston Red Sox. Indeed, the Boston team would be on the verge of reaching an agreement with the right-handed pitcher, according to what Chris Cotillo and Sean McAdam of MassLive suggest.

The latter notes that Hendriks is currently at the team's training center in Florida.

It would be a two-year deal and worth $10 million. The pact would also contain additional performance bonuses.

The bet the Red Stockings are making is that he will slowly return to form this year, since he will be a cheap reliever in 2025. It's a bit of an expensive bet, especially since the Massachusetts representatives will not be not in the race in 2024, and that Hendriks' contribution down the stretch will probably not matter.

The 35-year-old won the American League Comeback of the Year award in 2023, returning to the mound five months after beginning treatment for non-Hodgkin's lymphoma earlier this month. January before announcing he was cancer free in April.

Unfortunately, the Gunner's return was cut short after just five appearances on the mound due to elbow inflammation.
