Carlos Correa's recovery took longer than expected

After the San Francisco Giants and New York Mets withdrew from deals with free agent Carlos Correa due to an old ankle injury, Correa signed a new contract with the Minnesota Twins a year ago. a year ago.

It's no secret that the shortstop's 2023 campaign didn't go the way he wanted, however. No more than anyone else in the Twins organization for that matter.

The 29-year-old struggled with plantar fasciitis for much of last season before suffering a completely torn left foot in September.

It certainly didn't help, but it's not like no one knew about it. The main person concerned, however, is not looking for excuses to explain his poor batting average of .230, the lowest of his career.

I'm not going to blame my offensive struggles on the injury. It was more than that. But this year I will arrive healthy, ready to go.

More than four months later, Correa feels he is now back to 100% and can now go through the normal course of an off-season.

It took longer than expected, but the curve started to reverse about a month ago. Then I started to feel better. I started running. I started sprinting. Right now I'm in a good position. I do all. I have a normal off-season right now.

Correa demonstrated how important he can be in the playoffs when he was healthy. Returning after an eleven-game absence, the Puerto Rican hit three doubles and drove in four runs, while making several spectacular defensive plays.

However, there will always remain doubts about his state of health, the Giants and the Mets not dismissing Correa out of hand for no reason. His contract could ultimately prove to be a big mistake.
