It's almost ten years sinceAdam Silver took over from David Stern as NBA commissioner, and after Adrian Wojnarowskihis mandate is not about to end.
The ESPN insider revealed that formal discussions with the league's Board of Governors, which brings together the 30 franchise owners, regarding an extension would soon be concluded. The new contract linking the NBA to Adam Silver would run until 2030. Enough to allow it to achieve two of its major objectives, with a new agreement concerning television rights and… an expansion of the Great League!
In nearly ten years at the head of one of the most prestigious sports leagues in the world, Adam Silver has been busy pushing for major changes to the way the NBA season runs, between the implementation of the play- in, of the NBA Cup, without forgetting the upheaval of the format of the All-Star Game, to which he partially returned for the next edition. We can also note more recently the establishment of a two-day Draft.
In a more diplomatic style than that of his predecessor, he thus managed his various interlocutors, between owners, broadcasters, managers and players, to find the best compromises, whatever the subjects, such as the signing of the new collective agreement with the players' union which runs until 2029.
On the owners' side, we are therefore very satisfied with its governance, the NBA remaining flourishing and the Covid episode having been rather well cushioned by the NBA. On the players' side, we also appreciate his desire to change the league on social issues by giving basketball players a voice, which also led him to push out two owners for behavioral problems (Donald Sterling and Robert Sarver).
