Love stories end badly, in general. After 14 years serving the Seahawks (and a title), Pete Carroll was fired this Wednesday. The main person concerned remains bitter towards this decision which, according to him, would not have been made by experts. Interviewed by local radio Seattle Sports 710-AM, Pete Carroll provided details on his ouster.
Carroll explains that he had a meeting with Jody Allen (owner) and other Seattle executives to explain the Seahawks' failure to qualify for the playoffs.
“I have very specific, very specific ideas to fix what went wrong, and they didn't see it that way. They didn't see that this was what the team needed, and it wasn't what they wanted to hear. »
If Carroll explains that he understands the differences of opinion, he is on the other hand more irritated by the quality of his interlocutors.
“The most difficult thing, ah if you knew, it was so difficult because they are not people who know football. They are not coaches, and so explaining to them the details of the adjustments we were going to make was very difficult. »
Explaining details to lay owners: an exercise with which Carroll was familiar.
“Every year, you know that you are going to be challenged on your decisions with opinions that are in fact those that they heard in the media. When you don't know this sport, where can you form your opinion if not in the media? How can you know other than by listening to the radios and the conclusions made by journalists? You have to understand that this is a reality that I had to deal with, and that I then had to try to convince them. It was always a difficult exercise because it's people who don't know anything about football who make the decisions, so you have to explain it to them in a very simple way, a bit like when you talk to the media. »
As an end note, the man of 72 springs assured that he was not done with football.
“I still have plenty of energy and willpower, but I don't know if there is the right place for me somewhere. I don't know. I'm open to anything, but I'm not desperate. If it happens, it happens. We'll see. »
