Boisbriand is considering destroying the Derek-Aucoin field

Last November, the town of Boisbriand carried out a public consultation aimed at improving its town center and thereby revamping certain sports facilities attached to it. Of the lot, the baseball field named in honor of the late Derek Aucoin would be called into question and its demolition would be one of the possible improvement scenarios.

But now voices are being raised to put this possibility of demolition on hold. Via his X account, ExposFest event asks people to complete an online survey in order to oppose this demolition.

Remember that the former Major pitcher died of cancer on December 26, 2020. He was a very popular player and an exemplary ambassador for baseball in Quebec.

The Boisbriand/Ste-Thérèse Spartans Minor Baseball Association also spoke out against this project and is asking the population to complete the same survey, which will be available online until January 15, 2024.

Users of these facilities, the representatives of this association describe this field with its unique dimensions as a jewel for young baseball players.

In June 2021, the city of Boisbriand inaugurated Derek-Aucoin Park, in tribute to the deceased athlete. This park enhanced the baseball field already named in his name.

The city of Boisbriand will certainly not remain insensitive to the public's response to this situation. The municipal council still demonstrated transparency by organizing consultation workshops in November 2023 in order to collect suggestions on the different elements of the project concerning the development vision of the community downtown.

Let us hope that the field remains in the city's revitalization plans so that it can retain all its value and its strong representativeness within the world of baseball in Quebec.
