Dusty Baker could work for the Giants

The Giants are looking for a big name to represent their franchise. But right now it seems like everyone is refusing their money.

We can't wait to see if the trend will change by the end of the off-season.

Oddly enough, that said, it appears that the biggest name that could land in the Giants organization this winter could be a former player – and not a current player.

For what? Because Dusty Baker confirmed that he had discussions with Larry Baer, president and CEO of the Giants, for a role with the club.

He also expects to talk to Farhan Zaidi, president of baseball operations.

Obviously, we should expect this to be an advisory role. After all, he didn't retire from management to go full-time elsewhere.

That would be illogical.

Will this be a role specifically to assist the manager? I doubt. After all, Bob Melvin is one of the most experienced managers in MLB, with the Giants.

Maybe Baker would advise everyone? That would be more logical.

It's special to see that the Astros aren't the biggest dealmakers (manager Joe Espada is a rookie, after all), but GM Dana Brown and Baker didn't always seem to be on the same page.

The Astros will therefore not do like the Cleveland Guardians, who arrange for Terry Francona to be just a phone call away from chatting with Stephen Vogt, the club's first-year manager.

Remember that Baker wore the colors of the Giants in 1984, that he is a native of California and that he has 840 victories as manager of the San Francisco team.
