It has long been thought that Spurs were going to be able to afford the Jazz but, over time and given the nature of the match, they were forced to lay down their arms (130-108) in the face of repeated attacks from teammates Lauri Markkanen (31 points, 12 rebounds).
Well supported by Jordan Clarkson (24 points, 8 assists, 6 rebounds) or Collin Sexton (20 points, 6 assists), the Finn stole the show Victor Wembanyama (15 points, 7 rebounds, 5 blocks, 4 assists), who made his return to the court after a game of absence and who also let him shine Keldon Johnson (26 points) or Devin Vassell (22 points).
A losing return for the Frenchman, therefore, in what constitutes the 23rd defeat of San Antonio over his last 24 meetings. In terms of mediocrity, the Pistons are pulling all the cover on themselves, but the Texans are clearly no slouch either. As for the players ofUtahthey won for the sixth time in eight matches, proof of their good form at the moment.
WHAT YOU MUST REMEMBER
– The return of Victor Wembanyama. Preserved against the Mavericks, “Wemby” was in good shape last night, but he could not prevent the Spurs from conceding a fifth defeat in a row. Again limited in terms of minutes (24), he did not have his optimal performance/impact, despite some interesting flashes. Hoping that this resumption meeting will allow him to embark on his expected double confrontation on Thursday/Friday against a certain Scoot Henderson…
– Utah rose to a crescendo. First overwhelmed by the great collective and communicative energy of the Spurs, the Jazz then turned their minds around from the second quarter onwards, and collectively there too, to gradually gain the upper hand over their opponents evening. In the wake of their trio Lauri Markkanen – Jordan Clarkson – Collin Sexton, while Walker Kessler also did a good job, the Jazzmen exploded the Texan defense with 3-pointers and interior domination, in order to achieve their third success of rank. Logic respected, meeting (overall) controlled.
