Spurs forget Victor Wembanyama too often

This is a sequence that was filmed on social networks. Against the Pelicans, Victor Wembanyama calls for a lofted pass for an alley-oop. He takes off but the pass is not made and you can see the frustration on his face.

An action which is not isolated in the difficult Spurs season. Too often, they forget to serve the French who nevertheless have a significant advantage over the entire league.

“Wemby is 2m23, so we have to see him when he is in the racket”announces Devin Vassell for the San Antonio Express News. “Whether he's in the post or taking his position under the circle, we have to see him. »

And this is not a fault only linked to the first choice of the last Draft. Devin Vassell insists: the Texans are having trouble making the right reads of the play.

“If Jeremy Sochan posts a smaller player, we have to be aware of that and serve him. If I'm open at 3-pt, I have to be served. We have to play to each other’s strengths. »

Missed lofted passes

Victor Wembanyama agrees with this observation. “Of course we have to play to the strengths of others. Our best strength is our collective”explains the rookie.

And the cornerstone of this collective is the former center of the Mets 92, best scorer and rebounder of his team. With his size and wingspan, he is a valuable weapon for the Spurs. Don't hesitate to use it.

“I find that sometimes we dribble twice too much instead of throwing a lobbed pass for Wemby. So the defense is on him and he's no longer open,” remarks Devin Vassell. “If we dribble too much, I'm no longer open to 3-pointers either. So instead of a good shot, we have a contested shot. We really need to know each other. We have played more than twenty matches together and we should have a better understanding of things. It's up to all of us to be better. »
