I don't know if you know Ben Verlander. We're talking about a former minor leaguer who now analyzes the game for FOX Sports and has his own podcast.
And if the last name seems familiar, it's because he is the brother of a certain Astros pitcher, who also wore the colors of the Tigers and the Mets: Justin.
Ben Verlander is a polarizing figure in sports because of his positivism. This guy sees life in rosy terms for better and for worse.
But he is best known for being Shohei Ohtani's biggest fan.
Obviously, he has the right to love the player, who is unique. But recently, it made him cross a line that didn't go over well on social media.
He mentioned that Ohtani was the most important signing in Dodgers history.
He probably said that without thinking much about it, to add weight to his point. But many people reminded him that he had forgotten a certain Jackie Robinson.
From the lot? Justin Turner, a great player in Dodgers history.
Turner recalled that without #42, there would have been no #17. He later called Verlander's opinion terrible.
Then, Turner, who is a free agent, added more, mentioning that even #34 deserved to be in the discussion in his eyes.
His point is made in light of the fact that Fernando Valenzuela, whose number was retired this year, helped bring fans back to Dodger Stadium when the club needed them.
And let's just say Turner isn't the only one who thinks the analyst is wrong. You'll go see what's being said about Verlander on Twitter, for fun…
