Isaiah Thomas inducted into the University of Washington Hall of Fame

A year and a half after his last appearance in the NBA, Isaiah Thomas was honored by the University of Washingtonintegrating the Hall of Fame of it.

He, the former “Husky”, who spent three years (2008-11) on the benches of this university, averaged 16.4 points, 4.0 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 1.2 interceptions. Not to mention a whole bunch of individual distinctions within the “Pac-12” conference (or “Pac-10” at the time).

Shaped by his former coach

University is a very important time in my life “, he declares. “ That's where I grew up. My university years were the best of my life. I still have connections with my teammates, we talk all the time. So being inducted into the Hall of Fame is such a big deal to me… It's a blessing and I can't thank God enough for putting me in this position. »

There, Isaiah Thomas saw his number #2 retired and graduated from college, all while taking his three teams to the NCAA tournament (no better than qualifying for the Sweet 16). Obviously, entering his university's Hall of Fame is a wonderful conclusion to his college career.

This is one of the greatest accomplishments of my life », he continues. “ It's something that can't be taken away from me. There are only a few things you can take with you when you leave this Earth, but my name in the Huskies Hall of Fame and my jersey hanging from the ceiling, it will stay forever. »

Complimented by Jamal Crawford in a video, Isaiah Thomas did not forget to cite those who had a role in his success. Starting with his coach at the time, Lorenzo Romarimpressed by his confidence, his control of the game and his will, as well as his ability not to let himself be defeated despite his small size (1m75).

At that time, I think we had the best program in the country », Explains the former Celtics star. “ It was bigger than basketball, it was about integrity. I arrived as a teenager and left as a man, thanks in large part to Coach Romar. If you talk to any of his former players, they would say the same thing. None of Washington's great players, like Brandon Roy or Spencer Hawes, ended up being what they became without Coach Romar. He helped us all become more than just basketball players. »

The NBA in the back of his mind…

As a good student, Isaiah Thomas intends to one day follow in the footsteps of Lorenzo Romar…

This is the ultimate goal », he announces, concerning his future desires. “ I want to become the coach at the University of Washington, ideally within five to ten years. I want to try to take this program to the heights that Coach Romar has taken it to. »

But before moving towards a career in coaching, Isaiah Thomas already hopes to be able to continue his playing career. He who, let us remember, has not played in the Big League since the 2021/22 season, when he wore the colors of the Lakers, the Mavericks and the Hornets.

I always try to play basketball. I want to get back to the NBA, so I keep training and staying ready », Warns the leader of almost 35 years old, who has not (yet) lost hope and who is therefore increasing his appeals to the franchise managers.
