The NBA, and especially TNT, can rub their hands since the semi-final between the Lakers and the Pelicans attracted an average 2.2 million Americans in front of the small screen. It is the most watched meeting of the season, excluding the matches in the first week of the regular season.
For TNT, this represents an audience increase of 66% compared to average audiences for December 2022. Tuesday evening, the quarter-final between the Lakers and the Suns was followed by 1.97 million viewers. That’s an audience increase of 89% compared to last season, on the same date.
The NBA is not on fire
Even the meeting between the Pacers and the Bucks, although broadcast at an unusual time (5 p.m. New York time; 2 p.m. Los Angeles time), attracted 1.6 million viewers.
This confirms the media success of this first edition of the “In-Season Tournament”, even if Adam Silver remains cautious.
“There is no lap of honor yet,” reacted the boss of the NBA on ESPN. “Let's wait until we get through Saturday. When people ask me how to know if it's a success, we can look at the attendance, we can look at the ratings and the discussions on social media. »
This Saturday evening, the final between the Lakers and the Pacers is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. New York time, or 5:30 p.m. Los Angeles time.
