Jeimer Candelario leaves with the Reds

Jeimer Candelario leaves with the Reds – Passion MLB

The Cincinnati Reds have so many nice young guys pushing through the infield. Which?

Spencer Steer, Christian Encarnacion-Strand, Jonathan India, Matt McClain, Noelvi Marte, Spencer Steer, Nick Senzel and Elly De La Cruz are all names to keep in mind.

The club has so many guys that it even chose to let Joey Votto go, in order to make room for young players who are growing.

And now the club has decided to get their hands on Jeimer Candelario for several years. We are talking about a three-year contract ($45 million) with an option that could bring the whole thing to $60 million.

Candelario is a depth player at third base. He had a nice 2023 season in Washington and with the Cubs afterward, but he only had a good season at the right time.

His contract isn't huge, but I think he's going to age badly. Especially with the young people growing up in Ohio and having their way blocked by… him.

This inevitably puts even more pressure on the Reds to trade a youngster like Jonathan India. All this for an overrated veteran…

At this point, the goal is really to see the Reds improve their pitching staff. Nick Martinez and Emilio Pagan have landed, but it's going to take more.

Quite a bit more, even.

But at least the club decided to spend this year and take advantage of the weak division (as well as the good year 2023) to really try to make the playoffs. So much the better.

  • AJ Preller talks about Juan Soto as a future Hall of Famer.
  • A former Reds signing in Washington.
  • Tony Kemp in the sights of the Blue Jays.
  • The Braves and Dodgers want Tyler Glasnow.
