“One-and-done” at Oregon to be drafted with the 15th pick by the Wizards in 2018, Troy Brown Jr. (2m01, 24 years old) is currently in his sixth NBA season. And already four franchises…
Landed in Minnesota this summer, after a good season with the Lakers (7 points, 4 rebounds including 38% at 3-points, career record), Troy Brown Jr. was rather limited since the start of the season , notably glued to the bench for four entire rounds, the infamous “DNP – Coach’s Decision”!
“Clutch” at the best time
Jaden McDaniels’ ankle injury on October 20 opened up playing time for him. And Troy Brown Jr. took advantage Tuesday evening to set his new season record (by far!) at 17 units, a very efficient 5/6 on shots including 3/4 at 3-points.
Better, he was “clutch” in the absence of Anthony Edwards, injured in the hip earlier in the game, scoring 7 of Minny’s last 9 points, in his victory at the finish against OKC (106-103)
“At this point in my career, that’s what the NBA is. I can go from sixth man to out of the rotation”pragmatically declares TBJ in the Star Tribune. “It depends on the needs of the team in each game. I’ve had ups and downs in my career. I learned to deal with all this mentally and it helps me a lot. I just try to stay positive and bring my energy. I stay ready. »
“I was never a shooter. But either you adapt, or we leave you behind! »
Several times in trouble, in Washington then in Chicago, Troy Brown Jr. managed to bounce back under the palm trees of Los Angeles. There, he gradually transformed himself into a classic “3 & D”, refining his defensive qualities while working on his long shot to a decent level (which he has struggled to confirm this season… ).
“It’s certain that I wasn’t a shooter when I left college”he whispers. “I think I was shooting at 29% at the time. I’ve never been a shooter. But either you adapt, or we leave you behind! That’s how it works in this League. I appreciate the comments [élogieux de son coach], that’s a nice compliment. »
Rather accustomed to carrying the ball to create play, Troy Brown Jr. had chosen the Wolves as the preferred destination for their open offensive schemes, with real freedom of initiative. Signed for two years and $8 million, a small contract, it’s a good pick for the Wolves who can aim high this year.
“He’s a hard worker. Dedicated to his work »concludes Naz Reid. “He is voluntary. It shows ! He went from a situation where he had no minutes to another where he was given as much as possible, because of his contribution. »
