Senators: Zack MacEwen fined for his action against Matthew Tkachuk

NEW YORK – The NHL has fined Ottawa Senators forward Zack MacEwen for unsportsmanlike conduct for his role in a skirmish that occurred in his team’s 5-0 loss to the Florida Panthers.

The league relieved MacEwen of US$2,018.23, the maximum amount allowed under the collective agreement in force in the NHL.

The incident occurred at 5:13 of the third period of Monday night’s game.

Panthers forward Matthew Tkachuk rushed from center ice to deliver a hard-hitting check to Senators defenseman Travis Hamonic near the boards.

MacEwen then rushed at Tkachuk, knocking him down on the ice before delivering a few punches to the referees who had come to help separate them.

MacEwen was ejected from the game.
