When the Kansas City offense goes, it gives a victory, deserved, but not without difficulty. Las Vegas couldn’t do anything, even with a motivated Maxx Crosby, but on one leg.
Las Vegas Raiders (5-7) – Kansas City Chiefs (8-3): 17-31
4th game of the Antonio Pearce era with the Raiders. After the Dolphins, another big piece awaits them with the Chiefs. Reigning champions who hope to erase the disappointment that occurred last week against the Eagles.
While the Raiders started well and even led, they were then brought back down to earth by a ruthless Chiefs. Las Vegas was not unworthy, but perhaps said goodbye to its tiny hopes of the playoffs. Patrick Mahomes (27/34, 298 yards, 2 TDs) and his attack wake up, and all of Kansas City is breathing. Still leader of the AFC West, it’s this Kansas City that we’ll need every weekend, if Andy Reid’s team wants to keep their crown.
The Raiders impose
Las Vegas immediately put the pressure on, and quickly went 14-0. First of all, in a long series, with Jakobi Meyers (6 REC, 79 yards) at the conclusion of a pass from Aidan O’Connell (23/33, 248 yards, TD), again the starter. Then, a short series, with a 63-yard run by Josh Jacobs (20 races, 125 yards, TD), leaving Mike Edwards there.
Kansas City takes a quarter and a half before getting the machine going. Mahomes is finally in harmony with his receivers, including Travis Kelce (6 REC, 91 yards) on an incredible play, and Justin Watson who will allow the Chiefs to equalize. The Chiefs thus confirm their position as the best team at the end of the half (1st in the number of points scored in the last 2 minutes of the first half).
A champion second half
Author of the touchdown which revived his team, Isiah Pacheco (15 races, 89 yards, 2 TDs) gave the Chiefs the advantage for the first time at the start of the second half. This touchdown is an event, because these are the first points for Andy Reid’s team in the second half in 4 games.
Las Vegas can’t keep up. Result, the Chiefs escape, and definitively. Rookie Rashee Rice (8 REC, 107 yards, TD) escapes the vigilance of Nate Hobbs, and scores his 5th touchdown of the season. For the first time in his career, the receiver crossed 100 receiving yards.
The Raiders don’t know it yet. But after this touchdown, they will no longer find the solutions. Kansas City’s defense finishes the job. Josh Jacobs is stopped by Drue Tranquill and Chris Jones. Then, a field goal later, it was pass rusher George Karlaftis who sacked Aidan O’Connell to give his team the victory.
