Far from social networks, Marvin Bagley III has rediscovered the joy of playing

Every year, when it’s time to attack the playoffs, LeBron James disconnects from social networks to concentrate on the competition. Other players have imitated him in the past, and Marvin Bagley is the latest to have given up on social networks. As the preseason began, the Pistons interior deleted all applications from his smartphone to focus on himself.

“We always focus on the physical aspect, on getting stronger and on all aspects of this game, but for me it was mostly about clearing my mind” explains the former second choice of the Draft. “It was about learning more about myself, striving to be a better brother, a better son, a better boyfriend, a better everything…I just cleared my mind and I have reached a stage where I can think clearly and achieve my goal.”

He suffers from comparison with Trae Young and Luka Doncic

From his rookie season, Marvin Bagley III has had to deal with criticism born from comparisons with Trae Young and Luka Doncic, selected after him. Considered a “failure,” the former Duke player admits that it was difficult for him not to go on social networks.

“Players don’t admit they do it, but that’s what I was doing,” he admitted. “These things, when you put too much energy into them, they take a toll on you, and I was in a state of mind where I was comparing myself a lot. What does this one do for this team? What does this one do for this team? And I wasn’t really concentrating on what I was doing. Their journey will be their journey, their path will be their path. I have to focus on mine, on ways to improve myself every day and help the team I’m on.”

Happy on and off the field

This distance from the noise of social networks seems to be working for him. At least on an individual level with his 11 points and 5 rebounds on average in 19 minutes, with a nice 59% shooting.

He still fails to win matches with the Pistons, who remain on 13 defeats in a row!

“I’m good without it.” I don’t care what other people do.” he concludes. “ I don’t mean it in a negative way, but I don’t have to waste so much energy on it anymore. Should I do this or that because a guy in my draft did this or that? It does not matter. The most important thing is that I am happy off the field and on the field. This joy is there. »
