Good Gibby is back.
The New York Mets are set to hire John Gibbons as the club’s bench coach, according to The Athletic.
Gibbons is a former Mets player in the 1980s, but is best known as the former manager of the Blue Jays.
From 2004 to 2008 as well as from 2013 to 2018, he guided the Toronto club. It ended badly in his case and he never hid it, but he still took the club to the playoffs in 2015 and 2016.
But despite his difficult relationship with the bosses, he loves the Jays. He has a podcast about them and he follows them intensely.
He followed them, at least.
He therefore joins a club which has a rookie manager, Carlos Mendoza. He will be able to help her settle into her new role.
Details to come…
