Buffalo Bills (6-5) – New York Jets (4-6): 32-6
There wasn’t really a match this Sunday between the Bills and the Jets (32-6). If the New York team hung on for a while, its inability to advance in attack ended up sinking it. The feeling of seeing the same New York match over and over again.
Except this time, Zach Wilson (7/15, 81 yards, 1TD, 1INT) ended up on the bench. Finally the end for him?
On the Buffalo side, the attack did not have to force its talent. A few explosive plays and a smiling Josh Allen (20/32, 275 yards, 3TD, 1INT) pleased the fans. Even if the problems in the red zone persist.
The defense seems to be doing better, like a gala Rasul Douglas: 2 interceptions and 1 caused fumble. However, the offensive level of adversity prevents us from having certainty about the Bills’ defensive squad…
The Bills do what is necessary
Buffalo begins its first half since firing Ken Dorsey early last week. And unfortunately for fans, the difference is not yet obvious.
Certainly, the defense in front is tough, but the Bills attack falls back into its weaknesses. If moving forward is not a problem, concluding is. On their first three series, Buffalo is in the opposing red zone (the last 20 yards) but only scores three field goals (9-0).
The advantage is that there is no need to do more against the Jets. Once again, the offense and Zach Wilson produce nothing. Zach’s punts and bad decisions, like his thrown interception, follow one another.
It was following the latter that Buffalo finally found the key to the touchdown. Josh Allen finds James Cook (17 races 73; 3rec, 29 yards, 1TD) for a short pass towards the opposing goal (16-0).
The visitors finally came back to life just before half-time. As they are about to punt again, coaching chooses to fake punt on 4&2. The attempt is successful and galvanizes the team. A few actions later it was Wilson who converted a 4th by finding Breece Hall (10 races, 23 yards, 5rec, 50 yards, 1TD).
The runner will be at the conclusion on a reception for the touchdown (16-6, failed 2-point conversion). The Jets thus end 13 quarters without scoring a touchdown!
Just before returning to the locker room, Josh Allen attempts a hail mary. The pass is intercepted without consequence.
The Jets still bad…
The locals made the difference at the start of the second half. Josh Allen and his attack are regaining some explosiveness and it’s hitting the mark. On the first two series, TY Johson transforms a short reception into a gain and a 28-yard touchdown (22-6, missed extra point) then Khalil Shakir (3rec, 115 yards, 1TD) receives in depth before covering 81 yards for the touchdown (29-6).
Gains facilitated by a Jets defense which ends up cracking from being on the field, like the stupid foul against Sauce Gardner on the first touchdown of this half.
Indeed, the attack cannot relieve the defense because it still does not advance. Robert Saleh then decides to send Zach Wilson to the bench and replace him with T Boyle at the end of the 3rd quarter. This last minute solution does not change much in New York’s offensive slump. 1 fumble and 2 interceptions later, the Jets are still not moving forward…
Buffalo just has to manage the lead it has taken. The attack adds a field goal (32-6) at the end of the match.
With this victory, the Bills reassure themselves “accountably”. As for the Jets, the next few hours or days should tell us if Wilson remains the starter while awaiting the return of Aaron Rodgers.
