Going for Giancarlo Stanton was, for the Yankees, a poisoned chalice. After all, the power hitter may be good and powerful, but in the end, he is injured all the time.
And when he’s not, he’s recovering from an injury, which affects his performance.
Having him on the team also ensures that the go-to hitter position is taken. This isn’t exactly ideal.
Imagine if Stanton wasn’t there how much more the Yankees could take a chance on Shohei Ohtani. #Money #HitterOfChoice
At this moment, Stanton’s presence cannot help but handcuff Brian Cashman. The Yankees GM must deal with his presence.
Even though, in his own words, he knows Stanton won’t be able to play the entire season due to injury.
Is Stanton hurt right now? Not that we know of.
But the Bombardiers GM knows that eventually, as is always the case, Stanton will end up getting injured during the 2024 season.
I’m not going to tell you that he’s going to play every game next year because that’s not the case.
He will most likely end up injured again because it seems to be part of his game.
– Brian Cashman on Giancarlo Stanton
To say that being injured seems to be “part of his game” is absolutely incredible coming from a GM. Especially the Yankees.
Does he want to whip Stanton, who has played 158, 18, 23 (2020 season), 139, 110 and 101 games since arriving in the Big Apple?
In any case, it doesn’t give it any value on the transaction market… but it doesn’t have any in the first place, anyway.
For those who consider that Cashman lacks transparency, let’s say that the Stanton episode and his comments in recent days about his team may change their minds. He obviously can’t take it anymore.
