Ketel Marte is a hitting machine. Yesterday, against the Texas Rangers, the second baseman of the Arizona Diamondbacks continued his streak of games with at least one hit thanks to a productive double single in the eighth inning.
Marte had a hit in his 18th consecutive playoff game, this streak started in 2017.
By scoring two of his teammates, the new title holder brought the score to 6-1 in favor of the D-Backs. The latter finally won by the bridge of 9-1 and created a tie at one all within the framework of the 2023 World Series.
Marte’s irresistible sequence represents a new mark in the Majors. After Adolis Garcia’s 22nd RBI the day before, we have just witnessed a second record as part of this ultimate series which will end the 2023 season.
Will the guy who hits at the top of the Diamondbacks offensive line-up continue his momentum in front of his fans? It’s a safe bet that yes.
Ketel Marte’s contribution is significant amid his team’s Cinderella journey. Against the Dodgers, he hit .357, while his average against the Phillies was .387. So far against the Rangers, his average is only .200, but he has produced four runs in two games.
This season, he had good offensive production thanks to a .276 average. He hit a total of 25 home runs, while driving in 82 runs. His 157 hits represent his second highest career total, having hit 187 in 2019.
Yesterday, the D-Backs had 16 hits against Rangers pitchers and they have been a constant threat since the start of this playoff series. Each member of the team contributes in their own way and Ketel Marte sets an example with his consistency in going to the cushions and placing the ball in play.
Diamondbacks fans will be happy to welcome theirs for the next games of the series and Marte will be warmly applauded during his next at-bat.
