The former glories of the Celtics were invited by Joe Mazzulla this summer to come and see Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown and other Boston players, to bring the Celtic fraternity to life. Attention which particularly affected Rajon Rondo, recently seen at a Celtics training session.
“It’s done a lot in college, with returning alumni, but not at the professional level because players transfer to other teams,” compares the playmaker, NBA champion with Boston in 2008, to Mass Live. “Receiving this email was very powerful. Paul Pierce called me at 3 a.m. to tell me the franchise wanted to see us again. It was touching. »
Paul Pierce was perhaps the first concerned since he spent his summer alongside Jayson Tatum. Sam Vincent, Satch Sanders and Eddie House also spent time at the Celtics training center.
“These guys could be doing something else, but they chose to be with this group”
If Joe Mazzulla’s idea was appreciated by former players, current stars also welcome this gesture. Leading Jaylen Brown, who was eleven when Rajon Rondo, Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen won the title in 2008.
“It’s so cool to have these guys with us, to see them participating in practice. I grew up watching the Celtics, watching Rondo, Garnett and the others. So it’s quite an honor to see them now telling us things in training or during video sessions. These guys could be doing something else, but they chose to be with this group. That says a lot about them. I am extremely grateful to them. »
