With or without James Harden, Daryl Morey assures that the Sixers will be very good

Daryl Morey admits: this season is “hyper critical”for the Sixers as for him.

It must be said that after the replacement of Doc Rivers by Nick Nurse, the sports boss of Philadelphia must manage a new “melodrama”, with the transfer request of James Harden, still not resolved…

“This year, whatever happens with James (Harden), we will be a very good team”however assures the former GM of the Rockets to the Philadelphia Inquirer. “If James is here, we will be even better. If James is not there or if we get something in return, we will be very good.”

It is true that the MVP of the last regular season is still there, and that is already a good basis.

“I think we have the best player in the league [Joel Embiid] »continues Daryl Morey. “We have a great group. And our goal should be to win the title. I’m not really focusing on the second round (of the playoffs) because I’ve been past the second round several times.”

“It’s true that we only have a certain number of years with a great squad like that”

The Sixers, however, have not done so since the days of Allen Iverson, and their 2001 Finals. Since then, the Pennsylvania club has stumbled seven times in the conference semi-finals, including five times during the last six campaigns. And Daryl Morey must recognize that the shooting window for Joel Embiid and company is shrinking.

“It’s true that we only have a certain number of years with a great squad like that. We are excited about what Coach Nurse brings. Taken together, it promises us a big, big year.”

Daryl Morey noted the recruitments of Milwaukee and Boston, but recalls that “it doesn’t always work”.

“What Milwaukee and Boston have done is very good. But that’s why we play the matches. We have the best player in the league. We have a star in the making with [Tyrese] Maxey. And we have excellent players, winners, in this squad.” Enough to fight against the Bucks and Celtics?
