The Warriors decided to start the season with only 13 players under contract. Indeed, they just announced having released Rudy Gay and Rodney McGruder after their last preseason game.
The two men had hardly been used in the preparation by Steve Kerr.
Golden State is thus giving itself a few extra days to find its 14th player, perhaps time for new players to find themselves on the market, after exchanges or choices from other teams.
If the Bay franchise does not find anything better, Rudy Gay and Rodney McGruder could however return to increase the number of players, especially since the NBA requires a minimum of 14 players under contract. With his experience, the former Grizzlies, Raptors, Spurs and Jazz seems to have the ideal profile.
“I have to prove that I can be part of the rotation. And that doesn’t bother me. I got rid of my ego a long time ago. I am 37 years old. I’m just trying to win a title, so I’m ready to do whatever the coach needs.” explained Rudy Gay a few days ago regarding his motivation to join the Warriors roster.
