The division series between the Twins and Astros was highlighted by another remarkable performance from Yordan Alvarez. The imposing Cuban once again wowed us; by hitting seven hits (in four games), four home runs and six RBIs, which allowed him to maintain an OPS, hold on tight, of 1,783! He was also deserved (just like Mitch Garver) the title of most valuable player of the Division Series.
And yes… the power hitter of the Stros once again established a climate of terror within the opposing pitching staff. We were starting to wonder why the Twins continued to play him.
What will the Rangers’ game plan be?
Currently, throwing to Yordan Alvarez may be a costly decision. Especially in games with such high stakes. Therefore, it will be interesting what strategy the Rangers decide to employ against him.
By giving him first base, the Rangers could limit the damage, but that decision could catch up to them if the following batters do the job. In my opinion, if there are runners on the trails, and first base is free, the decision is simple: walk.
Although Kyle Tucker is a very good hitter, he is not in his area like Alvarez right now.
Seager or Alvarez
Corey Seager is another who has attracted a lot of attention since the start of the series. He is the real leader of the Rangers, who have seemed intractable since the start of the October dance.
Seager once again stands out at the top of the lineup, with a .429 batting average and 1.537 OPS.
What will give Dusty Baker and Bruce Bochy a run for their money is the depth of both batting lineups.
As much as we want to give the first base to Seager and Alvarez, the hitters who follow can produce repeatedly.
It will be a very captivating game of chess that two of the most experienced managers in baseball will have to take part in.
