Arizona Cardinals (1-4) – Cincinnati Bengals (2-3): 20-34
Joe Burrow (36/46, 317 yards, 3 TDs, 1 int) is finally doing better. And it immediately pays off on a sporting level for the Bengals. Visibly less hampered by his calf, the quarterback delivered his best game of the season, helped by a fiery Ja’Marr Chase, author of 15 receptions for 192 yards and 3 touchdowns.
The Cardinals held on for much of the game. But after a while, the injury to James Conner (6 races, 46 yards), the turnovers and the talent of Cincinnati ended up getting the better of Arizona.
The Bengals are finally off to a good start!
Cincinnati had yet to score a touchdown in the first half this year. They only needed one offense this Sunday. Ja’Marr Chase unlocked the counter (0-7). It even makes it 10-0 after a kick.
Stunned but not KO, the Cardinals continue to fight, as they have since the start of the year. Joshua Dobbs (15/32, 166 yards, 2 TDs, 2 int) finds Marquise Brown (4 rec, 61 yards, 1 TD) for a touchdown, then Zach Ertz (2 rec, 10 yards, 1 TD) for another, and here they are in front (14-10)! Especially since the defense has entered the game and is now locking down Burrow and company.
Dobbs recovered the ball just under two minutes before the break with the opportunity to widen the gap. Bad luck, one of his passes bounces and ends up in the hands of Cam Taylor-Britt, who goes to score! On this throw of the dice, the Bengals lead at the break (14-17).
The Cardinals are falling apart
The match heats up in the third quarter. Ja’Marr Chase flies for a 63-yard touchdown and the Bengals take a ten-point lead (14-24). Fatal blow ? Not for these Cardinals, who responded with a touchdown on the ground (20-24), and even an interception by the defense!
But Dobbs and his attack stall on 4th & 1 on the opposing field. And Ja’Marr Chase comes back with a new touchdown (20-31). The Cardinals get bogged down with a fumble, then another interception. Cincinnati definitely takes cover with a kick.
Always valiant, Shane Steichen’s men defended themselves as best they could. But Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase appear to be back.
