Jacksonville continues to win in London! Led by a decisive Travis Etienne, the Jaguars overcame one of the ogres of the AFC conference.
Buffalo Bills (3-2) – Jacksonville Jaguars (3-2): 20-25
In a stadium won over to the Bills’ cause, the Jaguars came to confirm their status as kings of London! In a blow for blow fight in the last quarter (4 touchdowns in a row), Jacksonville was able to count on a decisive Travis Etienne (26 races, 136 yards, 2 TDs) to win.
In the last quarter, the runner made several decisive runs, including two for touchdowns. One in particular on a magnificent breakthrough of 35 yards! Each time, they allow his team to take a ten point lead.
And it took at least that to beat these Bills. Struggling all game on offense, Josh Allen (27/40, 359 yards, 2 TD, 1 int) worked his magic in the last quarter by scoring two touchdowns. The first with a pass for Gabriel Davis (6 rec, 100 yards, 1TD) bringing his team to 13-18. The second after a 45-second express series where the quarterback brings his team 75 yards! At the end it is he who concludes with a 3-yard run. The “locals” then return to 20-25 with two minutes to play.
The Jaguars scare themselves until the end by giving the ball back to the Bills with 30 seconds. But Buffalo does not succeed in its last opportunity and logically loses this match.
After stringing together three victories, the Bills “fell” back to earth. In question, an attack incapable of keeping the ball and brilliant only through bursts of brilliance. The ground game, although better in recent weeks, completely abandoned Josh Allen and the receivers with 15 small yards (without Allen’s). The Jacksonville defense was able to focus on the aerial game successfully for most of the game.
Bills dazed, but tenacious
A touchdown scored 1 minute from halftime, a ball snatched 10 seconds from halftime while the Jags were on their 12 yards and 4 points behind at halftime (7-11) … The Bills can consider themselves happy to join the locker room in this situation.
For a long time, Sean McDermott’s men simply had no solution. The attack only gained a first down after the first quarter and did not reach the opposing camp until two minutes before halftime! In defense, Matt Milano even has to leave his partners due to injury…
It took a very good Josh Allen on several 3e attempts so that the Bills finally find the fault with a touchdown reception (7-11) from Stefon Diggs (8 rec, 121 yards, 1TD).
On the other hand, the Jaguars controlled the first quarter. It is particularly in the aerial game that Trevor Lawrence’s teammates (25/37, 315 yards, 1 TD) make the difference.
Their first points came from a reception at the back of the goal by Zay Jones. The Jags then lead 0-6 then 0-8 after a successful two-point conversion by Travis Etienne. The aerial game also allows the Floridians to put themselves in a field goal position to add 3 points (0-11) before the end of the quarter.
But in the second quarter, the Jaguars continued punts. The attack ends up advancing on a lightning series less than a minute before halftime but Trevor Lawrence loses his nerve under the pressure in the opposing camp… The Jacksonville defense may harbor regrets. An almost perfect performance except for one series where Buffalo gained more yards (86) than the rest of its series (54). Hard.
Travis Etienne as a providential man
The start of the second half is locked by the defenses. They grant nothing or very little to their adversaries. That of the Jaguars allows two big passes from Allen to Diggs, including one of 48 yards, but at the end Buffalo is blocked.
The Jaguars often have to start from very far back and progress is complicated. When they finally think about moving forward with crucial receptions from Calvin Ridley, three for first downs on the same series, Doug Perderson’s men end up giving in to the opposing defense. Under pressure, Lawrence once again loses the ball in Buffalo’s camp.
A loss of ball on which Buffalo does not capitalize. While under pressure, Josh Allen manages to miraculously throw a deep bomb to Diggs. But the receiver is in a duel with Darious Williams and sees him steal the ball while both have their hands on it! Williams falls to the ground with the ball at his attack on his 10 yards.
Behind, it’s a completely crazy last half. The two attacks give their all in different styles. Jacksonville goes through the ground successfully and two touchdowns from Etienne.
The Bills rely on the arms and legs of Josh Allen to advance and score. Allen scored two touchdowns for his team but it won’t be enough tonight.
Is this finally the Jaguars’ clinching game? The answer in the coming weeks.
