Wizards extend Wes Unseld Jr.

Confirmed at the end of last season for the exercise which begins in a few days, Wes Unseld Jr. is in charge of the reconstruction of the Wizards, who are opening a new page with the departure of Bradley Beal.

He was also potentially at the end of his contract at the end of this 2023/24 season because his last year was optional. We can speak in the past tense because according to Washington Post, the franchise managers have activated this option. Thus, Wes Unseld Jr. could keep his position – except in the event of dismissal obviously – until the summer of 2025.

It is a sign of confidence on the part of the Wizards since the coach had been confirmed by Tommy Sheppard, president and GM at the time. Since this summer, Michael Winger has become president and Will Dawkins the new GM. The son of the Wizards legend has visibly convinced the new leaders to continue to bet on him.

“Whether it was picking players or being involved in trade discussions, he was always great,” explained Michael Winger last week. “He’s told us time and time again how excited he is about this team, and finding, even though it’s going to be really difficult for him, how to mix these young players with the veterans. »
