For the Warriors, size remains secondary

Golden State having (for the moment) preferred to ignore Dwight Howard, it is still the new arrival, Dario Saric, who is the tallest player on the squad, at 2m08. Once again, there are no “7 footers”, i.e. players over 2m13 in the Golden State squad.

But for new GM Mike Dunleavy Jr., size has never been a major consideration in the San Francisco Bay Area.

“(Not having players over 2m13) has worked pretty well over the last ten years. I hope it can continue” replies the manager. “We like the guys we have on our team who can play center. Whether it’s Draymond (1m98) or Looney (2m06), we just added Dario Saric and we drafted Trayce Jackson-Davis (2m06). We may be one of the smallest teams in the NBA, but I think we’re one of the toughest, one of the smartest and one of the most competitive. »

Mike Dunleavy Jr. also forgets Usman Garuba, certainly recruited under a “two-way contract” (and whose contract has not been officially announced) but who can also play as a pivot, even if he only measures 2m03.

And then the Warriors always have two places available in their squad to recruit a “7 footer” if necessary.

“We’ll ask the guys to give it their all during training camp and see how they do.”concludes the GM. “As far as positions go, we might need a little size, but I’m pretty comfortable with what we have. We are used to relying on versatile players. We’ll see what happens, but we feel comfortable with the 13 players in the current squad. »
