Earlier today, the Angels confirmed that Shohei Ohtani’s season is officially over.
We suspected it when we learned last night that he had emptied his locker, but the announcement came this afternoon.
Despite everything, we still expected to have news about the player’s state of health. We knew that his oblique muscle was going to force him to miss the rest of the campaign, but remember that his elbow is also a cause for concern.
Because he still has a torn ligament, after all.
We knew that Ohtani was going to end up going under the knife, but we didn’t yet know when that would happen. However, according to the CEO of the Angels, Perry Minasian, we are talking about a matter of days.
In fact, it could have happened today (but it won’t).
But in fact, Ohtani is ready. He emptied his locker to be available as quickly as possible to have surgery, and even if Minasian doesn’t know exactly when it will be done, we agree that it shouldn’t take long.
I would be very surprised if the matter is not resolved by, say, the middle of the next week.
The good news, however, is that the Japanese should return to the team’s entourage for the end of the season. From September 25, the club will be at home and Ohtani is expected to be with his teammates.
He might decide to stand aside, but he obviously wants to be there for his teammates. Nice gesture.
We can therefore assume that he emptied his locker because he wanted to be ready to leave at any time for his operation and not because he abandoned the Angels. That would have surprised me from him, quite frankly.
We therefore hope that his operation goes as well as possible and that he can begin his rehabilitation as quickly as possible.
And, obviously, to hit the jackpot on the autonomy market in a few weeks.
- Speaking of Shohei Ohtani.
- Matt Olson enters the Braves record books with his 52nd home run of the year.
- He is in critical condition and the next 24 hours will be decisive. We wish him the best.
