Serge Ibaka has officially signed with Bayern Munich

Initially announced by the press, the arrival of Serge Ibaka at Bayern Munich is now official. The German club communicated on signing for one year from the inside, NBA champion with Toronto in 2019.

The former Thunder player successfully passed his medical examination before signing his contract on Friday. Then this Saturday he started working individually in training.

“It is a privilege to join this historic and world-famous club, so that the basketball team can rise to the top of Europe,” commented Serge Ibaka. “I have had a long career in the NBA, but I approach this new chapter with great enthusiasm. I still have a lot of fuel in me and I love basketball. That Pablo Laso was the coach was also a deciding factor. He is one of the best coaches in the world. »

Even if his career has been slipping in recent years, notably due to injuries, Serge Ibaka (34 years old in two days) arrives in Bavaria with quite a CV: 919 regular season matches, and 152 playoff games, for 12 points, 7.1 rebounds and 1.9 against average.

“We are deeply proud and happy to see an athlete like Serge Ibaka believe in our project,” said club president Herbert Hainer. “We are convinced that he will not only be a formidable asset on a sporting level, but also an enrichment for German basketball. I am sure that our young players will benefit greatly from his vast experience. »
