There is a change in numbers in Indiana. Indeed, no less than three players decided to change during the offseason: Jarace Walker who gave his #1 to Obi Toppin, who took #4 upon his arrival, then Buddy Hield.
The Pacers shooter, who has always worn number #24 in the NBA, has therefore decided to change and take #7 for next season.
A strong choice since it was notably the number of Jermaine O’Neal, between 2000 and 2008, the Pacers star at the time. The former All-Star even reacted on Instagram, calling on the franchise not to forget its former glories.
“I love Buddy,” assures Jermaine O’Neal. “My statement has nothing against him, but I am disappointed to see teams that, every year, celebrate the players who were the best of their franchise, and to see that the Pacers do not do it. It confuses me and it disappoints me. »
As a reminder, Al Jefferson (2017), Malcolm Brogdon (2020-22) and George Hill (2023) have also worn #7 since the departure of Jermaine O’Neal and the Pacers have only retired four jerseys (George McGinnis , Mel Daniels, Roger Brown and Reggie Miller). And that of Reggie Miller, the most recent, dates from 2006…
