Colts – Jaguars (21-31): Trevor Lawrence and his team scared each other

Indianapolis Colts (0-1) – Jacksonville Jaguars (1-0): 21-31

1 minute. That’s how long it took the Jaguars to close the game against the Colts. A much more complicated match than one could imagine.

Indeed, the visitors had to work hard in the last quarter to make Indianapolis crack. Then trailing 21 to 17 with 5 minutes remaining, the Jaguars regained control of the match in a series which saw Trevor Lawrence (24/32, 241 yards, 2TD, 1INT) multiply successful throws and rookie Tank Bigsby score on the ground to bring the Jaguars within 21-24.

Better than that, on the following series Tyson Campbell intercepts Anthony Richardson (24/37, 223 yards, 1TD, 1INT) New ammunition for the attack that Travis Etienne (18 races, 77 yards, 1TD) improves with a touchdown on a 26 yard run. Jacksonville then leads 31 to 21 having scored 14 points in 1 minute.

A knockout that the locals will not be able to overcome.

Indianapolis resists

It must be said that the match scenario was more complicated than expected for Jacksonville. However, the visitors started the match well with a touchdown from Calvin Ridley (8 rec, 101 yards, 1TD) on the second series of the match. The receiver shows that he has lost none of his talent with 5 receptions in the series and the touchdown to make it 7 to 0.

But Indianapolis does not give up, and after a complicated start, the Colts respond with a series of 11 actions where the rookie quarterback chained together several nice passes and great runs. He concluded with a touchdown (7-7) on a 2-yard full-center run in a style reminiscent of Cam Newton.

The locals even missed the opportunity to take the advantage when their defense intercepted Trevor Lawrence and left the attack in the opposing camp. Except that Richardson fails to convert on the 4th attempt.

An inefficiency on 4th that the Colts pay for on the following series when they return the ball to Lawrence who advances his attack and obtains the touchdown with a superb pass for Marvin Jones (7-14).

The Colts believed it

Returning from the locker room, the Colts are back on track thanks to Michael Pittman (8 rec, 97 yards, 1TD) who transforms a short pass into a 39-yard gain for the touchdown (14-14).

If Jacksonville regains the advantage on a field goal (14-17), the Florida team breaks its teeth several times against the Colts defense. In particular, it was a huge defensive action that revived the locals.

DeForest Buckner sacks Lawrence who loses the ball. Jacksonville thinks he’s getting out of it when he sees Bigsby recover it but the runner loses it too! Buckner then grabs the leather and escapes 26 yards to score the defensive touchdown (21-17).

An advantage that Indianapolis will keep until 5 minutes from the end and the crazy sequence of the Jaguars… Even if the team lost, the Colts showed interesting and promising things for the future.
