Draymond Green extended this summer, the Warriors will be able to rely on the interior and Stephen Curry until 2026. Klay Thompson is still under contract for one season. He could therefore be free during the 2024 off-season.
But this is obviously not the plan of Golden State, which would like to keep the back like its two friends.
“His contract does not expire until next year and we still have a lot of time ahead of us,” explains Joe Lacob, the owner of the Warriors, to The Athletic. “We love him and he knows it. We will try to keep him for the rest of his career. »
Have the Warriors started negotiations?
“We had a few brief discussions with his agent,” confirms Joe Lacob. “But it’s still early, very early. I expect that we will have big discussions soon. We’ll see if we can have Klay for a really long time. Which is clearly what we want. »
Another important member of the Warriors at the end of the contract at the end of the 2023/24 financial year: Steve Kerr. Here again, the first exchanges took place with the Team USA coach.
“We spoke with his agents, in the same way as with Klay”, continues Joe Lacob. “We are still at the beginning of all this. Like Thompson, we want Steve to stay a long time. He’s a Hall of Fame level coach and I’m sure we’ll find a suitable deal for both sides. »
