White Sox: Chris Getz appointed as GM for not hiring an external candidate

Yesterday, the Chicago White Sox announced the promotion of Chris Getz to the club’s general manager. It was quite expected.

It’s a move that’s also controversial given the fact that the White Sox needed a cleanup and its record in player development is mixed.

Because even if the club needs change on many levels, there won’t be many. And if we read between the lines, it suits the boss, the owner Jerry Reinsdorf.

For what? First, because the manager will be back in 2024. It has already been decided.

But above all, when you look at it all, you can see that the club did not want to change. We seem to think that the problem is minor.

And basically, it’s not.

According to the owner, 2023 has been “the club’s first real disaster year” recently. We therefore feel that he does not really think that his organization is going badly.

Hmm. The last time the Sox won a series in October was in 2005. But before 2023 there was no problem?

If we follow his logic, the White Sox will only need small changes to get through their troubles.

And that’s why he hired an inside guy.

I don’t want a long process.

It became clear that Chris was a strong contender, like many outsiders. Then I realized that if I hired a candidate from outside, it would take him a year to evaluate everything.

You lose a year and I had someone in-house who is ready and very competitive.

– Jerry Reinsdorf

So basically, my Chris, you’re here because the owner identified that the only two people who are responsible for the entire White Sox season left last week. You are the easy option.

Reinsdorf assessed that everything else was going to work and he didn’t want anyone outside to tell him that everything was all wrong. He doesn’t want to see the truth.

I am wrong?

The owner talked about how it was his worst year, that he understands the fans and wants to start winning again as soon as possible.

His only advantages are that his division is ZERO right now and that Chicago is a very nice city. But otherwise?

The owner, who is a very loyal man, does not want to sell because he likes what he does. That said, at the moment, I have the feeling that he is closing his eyes to what is happening.

Finally, note that Jerry Reinsdorf has completely closed the door to the arrival of Shohei Ohtani with his club and we have the recipe for a team that is not inspiring.

Good luck to the fans – for those who stay.
