Ballotage: Harrison Bader and Hunter Renfroe in Cincinnati | Cleveland is stocking up on pitchers

It was at 1 p.m. today that baseball executives were to notify Major League Baseball if they wanted to claim any players on waivers.

Remember that several names were available.

Obviously, it was by taking this morning’s classification (upside down) that the order of the waivers was determined. A team could claim multiple players.

Note that a team may have claimed one or more players, but still end up empty-handed. This is the case of the best teams on the circuit, in particular.

Here’s what happened.

First, the Cleveland Guardians stole the show by selecting no less than three Angels pitchers: Lucas Giolito, Reynaldo Lopez and Matt Moore. #TheGuardianAngels

The club is five games away from the playoffs (via the top of the Central Division) and clearly, we want to give resources in what may be Terry Francona’s last year as manager.

Giolito and Lopez, who left Washington, Chicago and LA together, are returning to a division they know well.

But in Ohio, it also brewed on the side of the National.

Outfielders Hunter Renfroe (Angels) and Harrison Bader (Yankees) head to Cincinnati to end the season.

Bader returns to a division he knows from his years in St. Louis. It will give a boost to training for the race in September.

Here’s also what to keep in mind:

  • Dominic Leone is going to Seattle
  • Randal Grichuk was not selected
