World Cup | The 16 qualified for the second round

Before this sixth day of the World Cup 2023, we already knew 10 qualified for the second round and as many eliminated from the first round. The last day of the initial group stage allowed us to know the identity of the last 6 qualified and the last 6 eliminated.

Thus, in group B, the Serbia And Porto Rico validated their ticket for the next round, as did the Greece in group C, the Slovenia and the Georgia in group F or even the Brazil in group G.

These six countries join the Dominican Republic and theItaly (group A), the UNITED STATES (group C), the Lithuania and the Montenegro (group D), theGermany and theAustralia (group E), theSpain (group G), as well as the Canada and the Latvia (group H).

In the second round, groups A/B, C/D, E/F and G/H intersect to form four new pools of four, without drawing a line under the results of the first round, and the two best teams in each group will then join the quarter-finals.

Group I : Serbia (6 pts), Dominican Republic (6 pts), Italy (5 pts), Puerto Rico (5 pts)
Group J : United States (6 pts), Lithuania (6 pts), Montenegro (5 pts), Greece (5 pts)
K-group : Slovenia (6 pts), Germany (6 pts), Australia (5 pts), Georgia (5 pts)
Group L : Canada (6 pts), Spain (6 pts), Brazil (5 pts), Latvia (5 pts)

Classification matches not really without stakes

For their part, the South Sudan and the China (group B), the New Zealand (group C), the Green cap and the Venezuela (group F) or the Ivory Coast (group G) said goodbye to their dreams of qualifying today and they are now all eliminated.

However, like theAngola and Philippines (group A), the Jordan (group C), of theEgypt and Mexico (group D), from Japan and some Finland (group F), of theIran (group G), as well as France and Lebanon (group H), their competition is not completely over.

Indeed, classification matches await these eliminated teams and they will not be completely without stake, since there will be qualifying tickets for the next Olympic Games or for the next Olympic qualifying tournament (OQT) at the key for certain countries. Hence the importance of not finishing too poorly ranked…

Here again, groups A/B, C/D, E/F and G/H intersect to form four new pools of four, without drawing a line under the results of the first round either.

Group M : Angola (4 pts), South Sudan (4 pts), Philippines (3 pts), China (3 pts)
Group N : Egypt (4 pts), New Zealand (4 pts), Jordan (3 pts), Mexico (3 pts)
Group O : Japan (4 pts), Cape Verde (4 pts), Venezuela (3 pts), Finland (3 pts)
P-group : France (4 pts), Ivory Coast (4 pts), Iran (3 pts), Lebanon (3 pts)

For now, only France (host country) and Australia (best team in the Oceania zone) are guaranteed to be at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Six more tickets to collect for the Olympics

He’s staying six tickets to distribute during this World Cup: two in Europe (among Germany, Spain, Italy, Georgia, Greece, Latvia, Lithuania, Montenegro, Serbia and Slovenia), two in America (among Brazil, Canada, United States, Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic), A in Africa (among Angola, Cape Verde, Ivory Coast, Egypt and South Sudan) and finally A in Asia (among China, Iran, Japan, Jordan, Lebanon and the Philippines).

The last four tickets will be distributed in a year, during the four Olympic qualifying tournaments (TQO). Twenty-four teams, including Cameroon, Croatia and the Bahamas, will be competing for these last four tickets to the Olympics.
