Texans: CJ Stroud officially named starter

CJ Stroud will start the Texans’ opener. DeMeco Ryans made what seemed like a no-brainer official on Sunday night.

After the last preparation meeting won against the Saints, the coach announced to the press that Stroud would be Houston’s starting quarterback to start the season. It will be Sunday, September 10 at 7 p.m. against the Ravens.

Stroud finished the preseason at 11/18 for 89 yards, 1 touchdown and an interception. All in eight offensive series. Over the course of the season, his duel with Davis Mills turned into a lone rider, since it was he, the rookie, who ended up having all the snaps with the first team in training.

The Texans were the last team not to name a starting quarterback. Three beginners will start for the first week, since Bryce Young (Panthers) and Anthony Richardson (Colts) have also been named to lead the attack of their franchise.
