Marcelinho Huertas reaches 100 World Cup assists

Legend of Brazilian basketball and the Spanish championship, also spent with the Lakers for a season and a half, from 2015 to 2017, Marcelinho Huertas celebrated his fifth appearance at a World Cup with a rare accomplishment.

The 40-year-old Brazilian leader has indeed distributed his 100th assist in the World Cup, during the fourth quarter of the match easily won against Iran (100-59).

Author of 10 points and 6 assists in 17 minutes, Marcelinho Huertas reached the symbolic bar in the fourth quarter, the icing on the cake of a great victory.

It must be said that the leader is accustomed to the fact, he who also holds the record for assists in the history of the young Basketball Champions League (BCL). Before the start of the competition, he spoke about this objective which he intended to achieve at this World Cup. In the end, he only needed one game.

“I think it’s just a consequence of my game. I just try to make other people better and help the team. I think I may be an old school point guard. There aren’t many left”, he said. “If I can keep improving as long as the team wins, I think that’s an incredible achievement.”

Marcelinho Huertas joins a very closed club since only Pablo Prigioni (106) and Ricky Rubio (130) have exceeded 100 assists in the World Cup since assists have been counted, i.e. since 1994.
