Yankees recall prospects Everson Pereira and Oswald Peraza

In a more than disappointing season, the New York Yankees finally made changes to their roster.

But these changes are much more in view of 2024 than for the last 38 games of this campaign.

Indeed, the Bronx Bombers have recalled prospects Everson Pereira, an outfielder, and Oswald Peraza, an infielder who has already played in major league baseball.

The latter was ranked as the number one prospect for the Yankees at the start of the season. Many expected him to be the starting shortstop, but the young Anthony Volpe forced the hand of the New York staff.

The 23-year-old was batting .268 at the AAA level with 14 home runs, 36 RBIs and a .846 OPS in 63 games.

Pereira, meanwhile, is ranked 51e rank of MLB’s top prospects. At the Double-A and Triple-A levels, he maintained a .300 offensive average in addition to adding 18 long balls, 64 RBIs and a .921 OPS to his record.

Defensively, the 22-year-old is above average and it will do great good in a disastrous left field. If he performs at the height of his talent, he could be sure to make the club next year, when there may be two positions available in the outfield with the possible departure of Harrison Bader.

The two recalled elements should play on a very regular basis in a lineup that might look like this:

LeMahieu 1B

Judge RF

Torres 2B

Stanton DH

Bader CF

Pereira LF

Volpe SS

Higashioka C

Peraza 3B

The Yankees also promoted Jasson Dominguez, their current No. 2 prospect, to the AAA level.

At just 20, he was batting .254 in AA with 15 home runs, 66 RBI and .781 OPS in 109 games. He can do anything on a baseball field.

He too could earn an outfield position in 2024 if his progress continues.

All these reminders are practically an admission of giving up on the 2023 season, a season to forget.
