15 years ago, Stephen Curry attended Chris Paul’s camp…

Three years after his arrival in the NBA, Chris Paul launches the CP3 Elite Guard, a camp dedicated to point guards and guards, and for 15 years, most of the current stars have passed there, whether it’s Trae Young, Ja Morant or even Donovan Mitchell, De’Aaron Fox and Bradley Beal. We are in 2008 and the leader of the Hornets has invited about twenty playmakers, high school and university students. Among them, Stephen Curry ! It was 15 years ago, and the Warriors point guard never forgot that internship.

“I went to his camp, then followed in his footsteps after the Draft, before my rookie year, and he taught me what it was like to work and prepare for an NBA season, the time and attention to detail needed to be devoted to it”, Curry tells ESPN. “That’s the beauty of basketball. We cannot invent this kind of scenario. We come full circle after having had so many battles for years. It is in its 18th season. I am in my 15th. It’s amazing to have the opportunity to play together, and I hope to win at the highest level possible. He’s a great competitor and so am I. »

“It’s certainly not thanks to me, but if I could be part of his story, it’s cool”

Does Paul remember Curry, then Davidson point guard? “I remember when he came to camp, a lot of people didn’t know who he was. As soon as he left the camp, everyone was interested in him and he became the best playmaker in the country. It’s certainly not thanks to me, but if I was able to be part of his story, it’s cool.

And how does he approach coming to the Warriors, perhaps the last team he considered moving to? “At this point in the summer, I haven’t even started to digest it all yet. I won’t know [mon rôle] only at the time of the “training camp”. Frankly, it will be the same as what I’ve always done: play basketball and be a leader. After all these years, the game doesn’t change that much. I can’t wait to find out all about it”.
