I don’t know how badly you can fathom how bad the Mets’ season is going, but we’ll hit the nail on the head a bit.
Following yesterday’s two losses against Atlanta (21-3 and 6-0), Buck Showalter’s men are now 23.5 games behind the Braves in the division.
The club no longer aspires to the playoffs, as you know, and now the formation finds itself only in front of Saint-Louis, Washington and Denver in the National standings.
Ouch, you say?
Note that the Mets are only 0.5 game ahead of the Nationals in the standings. The two clubs have 52 wins and the Nationals have 66 losses – compared to 65 for Steve Cohen’s troupe.
The guys are going crazy – and we can hardly blame them since we’re going through the biggest disappointment in history, in my eyes.
Recall that the Mets have a payroll more than $350 million this year, which is a record. The Nationals are 22nd in MLB with spending of just over $100 million.
New York supporters are not spoiled thisyouth year, In any case. #Play #Yankees
As you know, one of the reasons for the Mets’ lack of success is that the stars of the club haven’t had a great season.
From the lot? Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander.
If the first had a bad season, the second had a different case. After all, he got injured early in the campaign and it took a while to get back to his normal self…but his last month in NY was good.
That said, according to what a former teammate says, that didn’t make it any more enjoyable. On condition of anonymity, Verlander was called a diva by a former teammate.
This did not make Max Scherzer happy. The pair weren’t best friends in Detroit back in the day, but they could get along in New York.
That said, sometimes there was a fight between the two anyway.
Verlander was a diva, according to this Mets player, which prompted Scherzer to complain about [Verlander].
Verlander often complained about the Mets’ advanced statistics department, which he considered inferior to that of the Astros.

I once wrote in a text that the Mets might miss Jacob deGrom. I don’t think that sentence has aged well because of deGrom’s injury, but…
But my point remains: Verlander has obviously not been as popular as expected in New York. He seems to be better off in Houston, where he was welcomed with open arms.
That said, perhaps in the private sector, several Astros teammates are not satisfied to see him back in town…
Verlander, who says he has the greatest respect for the Mets, left after just 16 starts from New York. The plan to win around him will not have worked as well as in Houston, let’s say.
Also remember that hiring Buck Showalter, an old school manager, prompted Max Scherzer to choose the Mets. Showalter came after Scherzer, but he had been the favorite for a long time…
Maybe Verlander, who seems more open to advanced stats than Scherzer, had a fight with his legendary teammate over that aspect.
- A leave for Rafael Devers today?
- Joey Votto likes the Jose Bautista mural in Toronto.
- The Braves guys want to win.
- Jonathan India: his return is not imminent.
- Miguel Cabrera: The last active player to play against the Expos.
