Details of Anthony Davis’ contract extension

On Friday night, the Lakers surprised everyone by offering Anthony Davis the biggest three-year contract extension in history: $186 million over three seasons. Or an average annual salary of 62 million dollars over three years. Now tied to the Lakers until 2028, the All-Star interior has given up on his ‘player option’ available at the end of the 2023/24 season, and he now has a $270 million deal on five years.

Since that announcement, contract details have leaked. First, we learned that it was a “2+1” extension. Davis will have the opportunity to give up his last year of contract at the end of the 2026/27 season, and thus test the transfer market in the summer of 2027.

A salary increase of 32%!

Afterwards, his salary increase will be gradual. In 2025/26, Davis will receive $57.6 million, then $62.2 million in 2026/27, and finally $66.8 million in 2027/28 if he activates his “player option”. As a reminder, the Lakers inside is slated for $40.6 million this season, and $43.2 million in 2024/25. This gives an idea of its increase!

“During our conversations with Anthony, his desire to lead our franchise for the next few years became very clear”said Rob Pelinka in a statementformalizing this extension. “AD understands that his commitment to being the hardest worker, combined with his big personality, will help define our identity for many seasons to come. It’s a great day for the Lakers Nation as we are able to extend the contract of one of the most dominant two-way players in the NBA. »
