After gritting his teeth all season because of pain in the big toe of his right foot, Desmond Bane continue to be patient. Operated in the wake of the elimination of the Grizzlies by the Lakers in the conference semi-finals in mid-May, the back of the Grizzlies is still not authorized to train without restriction.
This is what he indicated during his “Bane Backpack” operation at the FedEx Forum during which the player distributed backpacks filled with school supplies to elementary school children in order to Back to school. Even if he was able to take part in all the activities with the children, and that he is authorized to participate in most “basketball” activities, the practice of five against five is still prohibited for him.
“I’m not allowed to play with contact yet, but when it comes to training on the pitch, I feel like my body is responding pretty well,” did he declare.
He too is preparing for his return
Seven weeks before the start of the “training camp”, Desmond Bane should be able to be 100% for the return of the Grizzlies. A comeback that could be synonymous with change for him. As with Derrick White in Boston, the movements made by Memphis during the offseason (between the arrivals of the Smart-Rose tandem and the departure of Dillon Brooks) could shift him a little further on the wing. A “small ball” triplet including Marcus Smart, Luke Kennard and him would also be possible. Pending of course the return of Ja Morant, suspended 25 matches.
For his part, the player does not fear more than that the start of the school year and the new missions that could be assigned to him.
“I’ve always been a bit of a player ready to play, no matter what is expected of me. Whatever position Taylor Jenkins has in mind for me to best help the team, I will be ready,” he added.
