Michael Jordan: ‘I know the Hornets are in good hands’

It is now official since the papers are signed: the Hornets are now owned by Gabe Plotkin, already a minority shareholder in the franchise, and Rick Schnall, minority shareholder in the Atlanta Hawks. After 13 years at the head of the franchise, Michael Jordan sold it for some three billion dollars, and even if he keeps a small stake, he will no longer have any role.

“The opportunity to be the majority owner of the Charlotte Hornets in my home state of North Carolina for the past 13 years has been a tremendous honor”writes “His Highness” in a statement. “I’m proud of everything the organization has accomplished: the exciting times on the court, the return of the Hornets name, the 2019 NBA All-Star Game in Charlotte, and the fact that HSE (Hornets Sports & Entertainment) has become a true pillar of this community. »

What also makes Jordan proud, whose sporting record is not very glorious (only three qualifications in the playoffs…), is to have found repurchasers capable of giving the team a boost. “Over the years, the unwavering commitment, passion and loyalty of Hornets fans has been incredible. As I transition into a minority shareholder role, I am thrilled to be able to hand over the reins to two successful, innovative and strategic leaders in Gabe and Rick. I know the Hornets organization is in good hands for the future. I am excited about the future of the team and will continue to support the organization and the community in my new role in the years to come. »
